capturing the small details of your big day

For us, filmmaking is all about finding the little details and personal moments that really tell a story, and that's especially true for weddings.

The three of us set up Special Day Films in 2005, jumping in at the deep end and rubbing shoulders with royalty at Tom Parker Bowles & Sarah Buys' wedding. Since then we've filmed weddings all over the country, in all kinds of venues, for people with all kinds of budgets. Our favourites have always been the ones where people have put their own stamp on things and made their big day THEIR big day.

These days it's really easy to feel the pressure to be "perfect", but perhaps our imperfections are what make us interesting. Your special day is the perfect time to embrace the things that make you different.

Have a wedding that's as unique as you are and let us make a film that celebrates that!

what we can do for you

As weddings are so personal, we don't really have set price packages - we'd rather get to you know a little bit and work out something that's tailored to you. However, as a rough example, a highlights film (set to your music choices) covering the bridal preparations through to your first dance would be £865. If you wanted the highlights plus a feature-length film (or a series of extended films) of the day - so you can relive the ceremony and speeches etc in their entirety - that would generally cost in the region of £1150. Each wedding is as different as the couple planning it though, so just get in touch so we can decide together what’s best for you.

If having a film is important to you but you’re on a tight budget, we will try and work out something that suits you - DIY weddings are great fun!

Please note, we use "wedding" as shorthand to cover civil ceremonies, handfasting, tying the knot, vow renewals or any other kind of unity ceremony!  We welcome enquiries from the LGBTQIA/LGBTQ+ community and support marriage equality just as we support equality elsewhere.

We’re constantly eating up the new art-house cinema releases and revisiting the classics. We’re passionate about films and film-making and we like to think this really comes across in our work.

how we work

On the day we will arrive as a two-person camera crew, ready to capture the atmosphere and excitement of you and your guests, as well as the little details and decorations that you will have spent so long preparing. We’ll record the big moments that will inevitably rush by in a blur, and the little moments that you might otherwise miss. We get a lot of compliments about how unobtrusive we are on the day.

We’ll usually send you a link to a sneak preview during the editing process, to whet your appetite. Then, when it’s all finished we upload the main highlights film to Vimeo for you to share with your friends and family, and the link goes live on Facebook.

After that we’ll send you a parcel in the post containing your film package. Depending on how much of the day you’ve had covered, you’ll receive roughly a couple of hours of fully edited content. You get three free copies of all this on your choice of BluRay, presentation USB stick, or DVD, and if you need further copies, we’d be happy to arrange that.  We're proud to say that as well as being aesthetically-pleasing, our packaging is also eco-friendly - even the USB sticks are made from recycled materials these days!

We take great pride in the fact that we are often asked back to work for friends and relations of previous clients - it’s always lovely to see familiar faces (as well as pregnancy bumps or new additions to families!) from past bookings. We were even asked back to film Laura Parker Bowles wedding a few years after Tom’s!

We’re also very proud of the fact that we are ace photographer Jim Poyner‘s first point of call if someone asks for his recommendation for a videographer.  We're based in Yorkshire and London we travel pretty much anywhere.

If you've not seen it already, check out the FAQ page as it has some pretty good tips on planning a wedding and picking your vendors. We still really aren't even slightly bored of the fact that we got referred to as "experts"...

When you're ready to get in touch, please fill in the enquiry form or drop us an email to start the conversation. For a quick top-of-our-heads estimate, you can always send us a tweet at @specialdayfilms or message us on Facebook. If you live close enough we can even meet you for a coffee/tea/beer and a chat. We look forward to hearing from you!
